Dear Friends, Thomas and Percy have had their share of ups and downs in their relationship. Both are cheeky and short-tempered, and are very proud of different things like their paintwork and design. These flaws came to a head when they had a nasty quarrel recently. Fortunately though, it turns out that the same quarrel has made them even closer than they were before. Yours Truly, The Author

More and more people travelled on the Fat Controller's railway, and more and more ships came to the harbors. Everyone had to work very hard indeed. The trucks and coaches complained bitterly, but they always do, and no one takes much notice. "We're not afraid of hard work," grumbled Henry one day, "But..." "We draw the line at goods trains!" finished Gordon. "Dirty trucks, dirty sidings!" finished James. "What are you complainin' about?" asked Duck, "On the Great Western..." "That tinpot railway..." muttered Gordon. "TINPOT?! Let me tell you..." "Silence!" ordered The Fat Controller, "Let me tell YOU that a new goods engine from Scotland will arrive tomorrow." This made the engines very happy. ... But the next morning there was a problem. "Did you say... two engines, Inspector?" The Fat Controller asked. "Yes, sir." "Then send the second one back." "I can't, sir," replied the Inspector, "The two engines look exactly alike and have no numbers. They say they lost them on
